Job summary

The Opportunity Alliance in Portland, ME seeks an Assistant Teacher to join our Head Start program. You will work with Lead Teacher and Teacher Aide to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating center-based classroom for children from birth to age 5, aligned with Head Start standards.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma with CDA or enrollment in CDA program, or an associate/baccalaureate degree; Ed Tech II for Pre-K; and ability to pass background and health screenings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and CDA credential, or enrolled in CDA program to be completed within two years.
• Ed Tech II certification required for Pre-K classrooms.
• Associate or baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or related field preferred.
• 1-2 years of center-based teaching or related preschool work preferred.
• Must be able to pass background checks and immunization requirements.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Teacher Aide to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment.
• Work in a center-based classroom for the growth and development of children and families in line with Head Start standards.
• Support language, literacy, social, and emotional development of children from birth to age 5.
• Comply with Head Start Performance Standards and Maine licensing rules.
