Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty member to teach Chemistry at Malcolm X College. The ideal candidate will develop courses using student-learning outcomes, engage diverse students, and support retention with effective teaching strategies.

The role requires a strong background in Chemistry and experience with Brightspace; Chicago residency is required within six months. Salary ranges from $58,000 to $65,000 and is governed by the collective bargaining agreement

Qualifications

• MS in Chemistry or: Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.
• PhD in Chemistry or a relevant field preferred.
• Knowledge of Brightspace learning management system.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellence in teaching; integrate technology to enhance student learning and engagement; inspire, motivate, and empower students.
• Develop and design courses by utilizing student-learning outcomes to guide instruction.
• Incorporate strategies to improve student engagement and retention.
• Compile, administer, and grade examinations; record and submit grades electronically.
• Hold office hours for student conferences and instructional support like mentoring and advising.
• Navigate a Learning Management System to support classroom instruction.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty to teach Chemistry. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate excellence in teaching; integrate technology to enhance student learning and engagement; inspire, motivate, and empower students.
• Develop and design courses by utilizing student-learning outcomes to guide course instruction.
• Incorporate strategies to improve student engagement and student retention.
• Compile, administer, and grade examinations; record and submit grades electronically using the college’s database.
• Hold office hours for student conferences and other instructional support needs like mentoring and advising.
• Complete all mandatory midterm/final grading and active pursuit certifications required by the college.
• Navigate and make use of a Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom instruction.
• Administer programmatic evaluations.
• Attend departmental/college-wide meetings; and participate in various department and/or college-wide activities or committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

• M.S. in Chemistry - OR - Master\'s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.
• Ph.D. in Chemistry or relevant field preferred
• Knowledge of Brightspace learning management system
• Experience with a diverse, student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

• Organic Chemistry, Survey of Organic and Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and Introductory chemistry
• Strong knowledge of assessment and the role it plays in the teaching and learning environment.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office

Salary range: $58,000 - $65,000

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant\'s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
