Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago invites applications for a Full-Time English Faculty position at Malcolm X College in Chicago. The candidate will design courses, foster critical thinking, and assess student learning using a range of methods to meet outcomes.

Excellence in communication and commitment to open access for a diverse student body are essential. The role requires a Master’s in English (or equivalent) with related graduate hours, plus 2–3 years of college teaching.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required; additional 18 graduate hours preferred in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or Composition/Rhetoric.
• Proficiency with Brightspace Learning Management System is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with diverse groups of staff and students are required.
• Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population is desirable, as is commitment to open access mission.
• Scholarly work, publications, committee work, and related experience are highly considered.
• Two to three years of college-level teaching experience preferred.

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a qualifiedFull-Time English Faculty member with a passion for teachingand learning, along with a strong commitment to the missions andideals of the community college. The ideal candidate will havedemonstrated success in the classroom by developing and usinghighly effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverseneeds and that promote the acquisition and application of knowledgeand the development of critical and creative thinking andproblem-solving skills; and in addition, engage in and modelintellectual curiosity and express passion for their disciplinesand for learning in general.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve usingdiscipline-specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
• Help students reach their academic, personal and career goalsand foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of peopleand ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveyingconfidence in every student’s ability to learn.
• Contribute to and provide leadership in their academic andprofessional communities and promote collaboration and teamworkamong members of these communities.
• Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, Board rulesand policies

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in English Language and Literature – OR –Master’s degree and18 graduate hours in English, Literature,Creative Writing or Composition/Rhetoric

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collectivebargaining agreement and applicant's education.
