Job summary

Shenandoah University’s Child Care Center in Winchester, Virginia is seeking a Substitute for a full-time benefited role. You will assist teachers, communicate with parents, and ensure a healthy, safe classroom environment for young children.

The position requires CPR/First Aid, background checks, TB screening, and pre-employment urine screening. Responsibilities include supporting daily activities, following center policies, maintaining hygiene, feeding and diapering children, and collaborating

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• High energy, positive attitude, and ability to work well with others and foster a team environment.
• Strong understanding of child development.
• CPR and First Aid certification current.
• VA online preservice training (13 hours).
• TB screening required (no sooner than 30 days before start date).
• Must clear full background check, fingerprinting and urine drug screening.
• Annually receive 16 hours in-service training and attend staff meetings.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and perform physical tasks as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in daily activities.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents about their child’s day.
• Learn and implement all center policies and state regulations.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining hygiene, safety, and security of children.
• Feed, diaper and potty‑train children.
• Clean and sanitize classroom, toys and tables.
• Interact with children throughout the day.
• Other duties as assigned by Director/Assistant Director.
