Alfred J Gomes Elementary School in New Bedford, MA is seeking a Building Based Substitute Teacher to cover classrooms from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, ensuring instruction and smooth routines in the absence of the regular teacher.

The role requires at least 60 college credits or a bachelor’s degree, experience with children, and comfort with MS Office, Google tools, video conferencing, and education software; MA teaching certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 60 college credits required; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.
• Experience working with children.
• Strong knowledge of technology including MS Office, Video Conferencing, Teams, Google, Shared platforms, and education specific software.
• Promotes an environment of cultural competency through positive relationships with all stakeholders.
• Massachusetts Teaching Certificate preferred.
• Those pursuing a career in education preferred.
• Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides students with a positive learning environment to support their intellectual, social, and emotional growth and development.
• Delivers instruction and implements lesson plans in line with District’s goals to ensure success for all students.
• Supervise students in school related settings.
• Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Supports students in whole class, small group and individual settings using various teaching methods.
• Adapts instruction delivery to best meet the needs of all students.
• Communicates with students, staff, and families.
• Follows and supports all District and school policies, rules, and procedures.
• Meets with the appropriate Administrator and becomes orientated to school policies and procedures such as attendance, discipline, schedules, emergency evacuation and incident response.
• Supervises students to ensure their safety and welfare.
• Reports any student related injury, accident, illness, discipline problem Administration immediately or as soon as is reasonably.
• Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
• Participates in all District provided Professional Development
• Maintains the confidentiality of the position including all student and school personnel information.
• Other related duties as assigned by the building administrator.
