Job summary

New Bedford Public Schools is seeking a Building Based Substitute Teacher for Charles S Ashley Elementary School in New Bedford, MA. The role runs 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, focusing on delivering instruction and maintaining a positive classroom environment in the absence of the lead teacher.

The ideal candidate will have at least 60 college credits, experience with children, and comfort with technology. Massachusetts teaching credentials are preferred, with DESE certification commanding a higher daily

Qualifications

Minimum of 60 college credits required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience working with children.
Strong knowledge of technology including MS Office, Video Conferencing, Teams, Google, Shared platforms, and education-specific software.
Promotes an environment of cultural competency through building positive relationships with all stakeholders.
Massachusetts Teaching Certificate preferred.
Those pursuing a career in education preferred.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Maintains professional appearance and appropriate dress.
DESE license certified recipients receive an additional daily rate differential based on school assignment.

Responsibilities

Provides students with a positive learning environment to support intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
Delivers instruction and implements lesson plans aligned with District goals.
Supervise students in school settings.
Maintain classroom routines and procedures.
Support students in whole class, small group, and individual settings.
Adapt instruction delivery to meet diverse needs.
Communicate with students, staff, and families.
Follow District and school policies and procedures.
Meet with Administrators and orientation to school policies.
Supervise students for safety and welfare.
Report student-related incidents promptly.
Record daily activities in writing.
Participate in District-provided Professional Development.
Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
