Job summary

Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylorsville, NC, is seeking an Assistant Dietary Services Manager to support daily operations and lead the dietary team.

You will work closely with the Dietary Services Manager to ensure residents receive quality meals, safe food handling, and a positive dining experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Prior supervisory experience in healthcare dining is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous food service experience with supervisory or leadership preferred.
• Healthcare, skilled nursing, or long-term care food service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• ServSafe/Serv Plate Certification preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Dietary Services Manager with daily department operations, meal preparation, service, and sanitation.
• Help supervise and provide direction to dietary staff and ensure appropriate coverage.
• Assist with employee scheduling and maintaining department staffing levels.
• Monitor meal service to meet resident dietary needs and preferences.
• Collaborate with nursing, dietitian, and leadership to ensure quality dining experiences.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies.
• Support training and ongoing education of staff.
• Document and maintain required records for the department.

Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is seeking a dependable and motivated Assistant Dietary Services Manager to join our team and support the daily operations of our Dietary Services Department.

Position Overview

The Assistant Dietary Services Manager supports the Dietary Services Manager with the day-to-day operations of the department, including staff supervision, meal service, sanitation, food safety, scheduling, inventory, and regulatory compliance.

This position serves as a key member of the dietary leadership team and helps ensure department operations run smoothly while maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and resident-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Dietary Services Manager with daily department operations, meal preparation, service, and sanitation
• Help supervise, support, and provide direction to dietary staff
• Assist with employee scheduling and maintaining appropriate department coverage
• Monitor meal service to help ensure resident preferences, dietary needs, and meal specifications are followed
• Work collaboratively with the Dietary Services Manager, nursing team, dietitian, and facility leadership
• Help maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, infection control, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies
• Monitor kitchen and dining areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety standards are maintained
• Support staff training, orientation, and ongoing education
• Assist in monitoring resident satisfaction and responding appropriately to dining-related concerns
• Maintain required records and documentation as assigned
• Step in to support department operations as needed to ensure consistent meal service and resident satisfaction

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous food service experience required; supervisory or leadership experience preferred
• Healthcare, skilled nursing, long-term care, senior living, or institutional food service experience preferred
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices
• ServSafe/Serv Plate Certification required
• Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification is a plus, but not required unless applicable to the position
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with employees, residents, families, and facility leadership
• Dependable, hands-on, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment
• Commitment to providing excellent service and a positive experience for our residents
