  • Professional degree with required anatomy/physiology coursework is acceptable.

  • Adhere to schedule and office hours; maintain classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Assess program student learning outcomes and contribute to curriculum development.

Job description

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

This is a 9-month, full-time position. Instructors may be assigned classes at any of the four River Parishes Community College campuses (Gonzales, Reserve, Plaquemine, and St. Charles), as determined by student need and institutional demand. Teaching needs may include face-to-face/online and/or evening classes. Full-time faculty are expected to actively serve on campus committees, participate in campus activities, and participate in student advising and recruitment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in anatomy and/or physiology OR Master’s degree in any of the following biology-related disciplines (anatomy, cell biology, biology, biomedical sciences, evolution, genetics, histology, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, virology, zoology) OR Master’s degree (in any discipline) with 18 graduate semester hours in anatomy and/or physiology or kinesiology courses related to anatomy and physiology or combination of 8 graduate semester hours of anatomy and/or physiology or kinesiology courses related to anatomy and physiology and 10 graduate semester hours of embryology, cell biology, histology, organology, pathology, endocrinology, immunology, molecular biology and/or genetics OR Professional degree (M.D., D.O., D.V.M.) and 8 graduate semester hours in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology courses related to anatomy and physiology, embryology, cell biology, histology, organology, pathology, endocrinology, immunology, molecular biology and/or genetics. Official transcripts must be submitted. Satisfactory background check – an offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Previous teaching experience preferred. Proficiencies in classroom technologies (podium computer, laptop, iPad, and SMARTBoard) and use of Canvas LMS Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations.

FULL TIME FACULTY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
I. TEACHING AND DIRECT INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
  • Perform all instructional responsibilities in accordance with the role, scope, and mission of the College.
  • Adhere to designated schedule of classes and office hours.
  • Attend and provide meaningful instruction for all class sessions during the semester.
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
  • Develop, distribute, and explain course expectations, grading system, attendance policy, etc.
  • Devote adequate time to class preparation.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching and assessment methods.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation instruments.
  • Utilize technology as approved/required by the college.
II. SERVICE TO STUDENTS, DEPARTMENT, DIVISION OR COLLEGE, COMMUNITY
  • Contribute to the assessment of program student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in the review, development, and revision of discipline-specific curriculum.
  • Serve as a resource for students in the pursuit of employment or advanced educational opportunities.
  • Support the dissemination of information to prospective students.
  • Support student success through academic advising, mentoring, tutoring.
  • Attend/participate in commencement ceremonies.
  • Participate in program advisory committee meetings.
  • Demonstrate commitment to effective communication.
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Participate in college in-service programs and professional development.
  • Develop and follow-through on an individualized professional development plan.
  • Complete all academic and occupational credential requirements.
  • Complete all College, system, and state mandated training.
IV. LEADERSHIP
  • Refer to expectations outlined in the approved contract and/or job description related to additional duties assignments.
V. OTHER
  • Adhere to all RPCC and LCTCS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by college/campus administrators.
  • Always represent the College in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.
