REPORTS TO: Data Engineering and Analytics Director
LOCATION: Salt Lake City – Hybrid Schedule
STARTING DATE: Immediately
POSITION TYPE: Full Time
Deseret Book is a mission-driven company, committed to being a trusted gathering place for thoughtful expressions of faith. Established in1866, today we create and curate stories worth telling, questions worth exploring, and beauty worth sharing to improve the lives of individuals and families in every step of their faith journey. In our work culture, we put people first. Our team members are dedicated to meeting the needs of our communities as we work together, creating an environment where collaboration is critical and personal accountability is expected. If you are passionate about helping people find inspiration and help for their lives, and working with colleagues who want to do the same, then Deseret Book Company is the place for you.
A Full Stack Software Engineer will own the technical direction of a core business area end-to‑end. Day‑to‑day, that means defining architecture, building scalable solutions on AWS, and shipping full‑stack web applications, while simultaneously keeping systems healthy by paying down technical debt, implementing monitoring, and planning upgrades. Roughly half the role is hands‑on architecture and project delivery; the other half is split between cross‑functional collaboration, system maintenance, and knowledge sharing. This is not a heads‑down coding role. The engineer will partner with business stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions and provide guidance on what’s feasible. They’ll collaborate with other technical teams across the organization, coordinating integration efforts and designing APIs for system interoperability. Clear communication is essential, as they’ll need to make complex technical concepts accessible to non‑technical team members and facilitate decision‑making across groups. They’ll also engage with project stakeholders through regular status updates, timeline estimations, and early risk identification.
A successful candidate must have at least five years of development work with demonstrated technical leadership. They’ll bring proficiency in JavaScript frameworks like TanStack Start or Svelte, PostgreSQL or MySQL, AWS services such as Bedrock, Lambda, and EventBridge, and search engines like OpenSearch. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, analytically sharp, and has the communication skills to balance feature development, technical debt, and cross‑team collaboration.
