Job summary

Belcan Corporation in Berkeley, CA seeks a Test Equipment Design Engineer, Electrical to design and deliver test equipment for iron‑air battery systems. You will create schematics, build test rigs, and ensure safety and reliability for high‑power hardware.

The role requires a BS/MS in Electrical/Computer/Systems Engineering and 3+ years of electrical design or test equipment development, with UL508A experience and strong collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).
  • Basic proficiency with mCAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, etc.)
  • Proficiency with eCAD tools (Altium, AutoCAD Electrical/E-Plan, etc.)
  • Experience designing control panels adhering to UL508A standards
  • Experience working with industrial automation hardware (PLCs, HMIs, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy test equipment for electrical testing of battery hardware and software.
  • Create electrical schematics to capture complex test system designs including control panels, test racks, PCBA, harnesses.
  • Architect and implement test equipment for air and liquid-handling test beds used in verification testing.
  • Own the selection and implementation of sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on the physical form factor of test stands, optimizing for operability, maintenance and safety.
  • Contribute to the software development of test beds, including control, automation, and data acquisition functionality.
  • Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.

A Test Equipment Design Engineer, Electrical job opportunity is open with our client in Berkeley, Ca. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron‑air battery systems and supporting hardware. To be considered for this role you will have a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field. 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).

Job Duties
  • The scope of your work will range from simple fixture development and material handling systems through complex verification test beds used in the evaluation of our battery systems.
  • . In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron‑air battery systems and supporting hardware.
  • Design, build, and deploy custom test equipment used in the electrical testing of battery hardware and software.

  • Ensure equipment designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high-power and hazardous systems.
  • Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience/ Education
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field.
