Job summary

Belcan Corporation is seeking a Test Equipment Design Engineer, Electrical in Berkeley, CA. The role focuses on designing and delivering test equipment for iron-air battery systems and supporting hardware, with a BS or MS in a related engineering field and 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development.

You will create schematics for complex test setups, deploy test stands, and work with mechanical engineers to optimize safety and operability.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).
  • Basic proficiency with mCAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, etc.)
  • Proficiency with eCAD tools (Altium, AutoCAD Electrical/E-Plan, etc.)
  • Experience designing control panels adhering to UL508A standards
  • Experience working with industrial automation hardware (PLCs, HMIs, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and delivery of test equipment for electrical testing of battery hardware and software.
  • Create electrical schematics for complex test systems, control panels, test racks, PCBA harnesses.
  • Architect and implement test equipment for air and liquid-handling test beds.
  • Own sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems selection and implementation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on form factor, operability, maintenance and safety.
  • Contribute to software development for test beds, including control and data acquisition.
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability and compliance standards for high-power/hazardous systems.
  • Document designs, usage guidelines and validation procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.

A Test Equipment Design Engineer, Electrical job opportunity is open with our client in Berkeley, Ca. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron-air battery systems and supporting hardware. To be considered for this role you will have a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field. 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).

Job Duties
  • The scope of your work will range from simple fixture development and material handling systems through complex verification test beds used in the evaluation of our battery systems.
  • In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron-air battery systems and supporting hardware.
  • Design, build, and deploy custom test equipment used in the electrical testing of battery hardware and software..
  • Create electrical schematics to capture complex test system designs including the design of control panels, test racks, custom PCBAs, harnesses, etc.
  • Architect and implement test equipment for air and liquid-handling test beds used in the verification testing of our BESS auxiliary systems.
  • Own the selection and implementation of sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on the physical form factor of test stands, optimizing for operability, maintenance and safety.
  • Contribute to the software development of test beds, including control, automation, and data acquisition functionality.
  • Ensure equipment designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high-power and hazardous systems.
  • Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
