Job summary

Roo Veterinary, Inc. seeks a motivated Full Stack Engineer II to join our growing engineering team. In this mid-level role, you’ll design, build, and maintain features powering Roo’s veterinary marketplace, collaborating with product, design, data, and engineering to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions.

This is a remote-first role, with occasional travel to San Francisco for cross-functional events or team offsites as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with modern web/mobile stacks and RESTful APIs.
• Strong knowledge of React/React Native and Node.js ecosystems.
• Experience with AWS and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Familiarity with scalable architectures and testing.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design, data, and engineering to deliver scalable features.
• Design, develop, and maintain features across our stack with focus on performance.
• Write clean, efficient code for React Native mobile app and backend services.
• Participate in technical design discussions and architectural decisions.
• Mentor early-career engineers and conduct peer code reviews.
• Own testing lifecycle with unit and end-to-end tests (Jest, Cypress).
• Coordinate with DevOps for CI/CD and reliable deployments.

About the Role

We're looking for a motivated and skilledFull Stack Engineer (Software Engineer II) to join our growing engineering team. In this mid-level role, you'll play a critical part in designing, building, and maintaining features that power Roo’s veterinary marketplace. You’ll work cross-functionally with product, design, data, and engineering peers to bring scalable, high-impact solutions to life.

This is a remote-first role, with occasional travel to San Francisco for cross-functional events or team offsites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers to deliver robust and thoughtful technical solutions that solve real business problems.
• Design, develop, and maintain features across our stack, with a focus on scalable architecture, performance, and maintainability.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, contributing to both our React Native mobile app and backend services.
• Participate in technical design discussions and make meaningful contributions to architectural decisions.
• Lead by example through high-quality code, peer code reviews, and mentoring early-career engineers.
• Own the testing lifecycle for your features—writing unit tests with Jest and end-to-end tests with Cypress.
• Investigate and resolve production issues, improve observability, and contribute to platform reliability.
• Partner with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth deployments, CI/CD workflows, and system performance.
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and proactively introduce improvements to tools, processes, or technologies.

Qualifications

• Mobile development experience (e.g., React Native or another mobile framework)
• Experience with Node, Express, React, AWS, and relational databases
• Proficient at writing complex and efficient SQL queries
• Experience working with a growing team and early stage startup strongly preferred
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Degree in Computer Science or relevant field preferred

$150,000 - $195,000 USD

$135,000 - $180,000 USD

$130,000 - $170,000 USD

Tier 4 Pay Range (examples: Minneapolis, Miami, Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City)

$120,000 - $160,000 USD

Tier 5 Pay Range (examples: Madison, Birmingham, San Antonio, Spokane, Toronto)

$115,000 - $150,000 USD
