The Phoenix Group in New York seeks a hands-on Lead Architect to design and build scalable full-stack systems. You will shape backend services, data models, and modern frontend interfaces powering data-driven product experiences and enterprise insights using AI/ML.

As a technical leader, you will drive event-driven architectures with Kafka and cloud pub/sub, implement secure multi-tenant patterns, mentor engineers, and partner with DevOps to ensure scalable, observable, and compliant AWS

This leadership position involves architecting and building scalable full stack systems, including backend services, data models, and modern frontend interfaces that support intelligent, data-driven product experiences. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader, influencing core services and creating end-to-end applications leveraging AI and machine learning technologies for enterprise insights and operational optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy full stack applications with modular backend services, REST and GraphQL APIs, and frontend UI components, prioritizing performance, security, and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—product management, design, data science, and DevOps—to translate complex requirements into reliable, user-centric solutions.
• Define and optimize canonical data models, manage complex data relationships (graphs, hierarchies), and develop search/indexing solutions (Elasticsearch, vector search) supporting AI-driven search and recommendation features.
• Build event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka and cloud-based pub/sub systems, implementing real-time data streams and asynchronous workflows.
• Integrate AI/ML functionalities—including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, and entity resolution—enhancing workflow usability and business value.
• Establish frontend architectures using modern frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular with a focus on performance, accessibility, and shared UI component libraries.
• Drive system reliability, observability, automated testing, and continuous improvement processes.
• Implement security measures including role-based (RBAC), attribute-based (ABAC), and multi-tenant access controls across all development layers.
• Mentor engineering teams on system architecture, code quality, and best practices, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Partner with DevOps and security teams to oversee cloud infrastructure (AWS), ensuring scalability, resilience, and compliance.

Core Qualifications & Requirements

• 5+ years of full stack software engineering experience with proven leadership in enterprise-level systems.
• Strong expertise in backend frameworks (FastAPI, Django) and frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular) with modern build tools (Vite).
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript, with deep understanding of data modeling (relational, NoSQL, graph databases).
• Extensive experience designing and consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs within large-scale, service-oriented architectures.
• Practical knowledge of event-driven systems (Kafka, cloud pub/sub) and asynchronous workflows.
• Skilled in implementing security controls (RBAC, ABAC) and optimizing multi-tenant applications, familiar with search technologies (Elasticsearch, vector search).
• Deep understanding of cloud-native development on AWS, including CI/CD, observability, and automation practices.
• Experience integrating AI/ML features such as retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, and AI workflow observability.
• Ability to translate complex technical solutions into scalable, business-oriented products and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
