Job summary

Black Canyon Consulting LLC in Fairfax, VA is seeking a mid-career Embedded Systems Engineer who blends hardware and software skills to develop next-generation medical devices. You will design FPGA logic for Xilinx platforms, implement AXI-based interfaces, and own board-level schematics and interfaces from power to high-speed routing.

The role spans kernel drivers, Linux user-space libraries, and validation under IEC 62304.

Qualifications

• 4–7+ years of hands-on embedded systems experience.
• Ability to generate complex board-level schematics for FPGA-based designs.
• Deep knowledge of Xilinx toolchain (Vivado/Vitis) and AXI interconnect.
• Proficiency in HDL for synthesis, simulation, and timing.
• Strong embedded Linux experience with kernel config and cross-compilation.
• C/C++ or Rust for firmware and driver development; Python for scripting.

Responsibilities

• Design and own schematic generation for FPGA-centric devices, including power and routing.
• Architect and implement FPGA logic communicating via AXI to user-space apps.
• Develop and maintain Linux kernel drivers and user-space libraries.
• Lead full-cycle medical device development under IEC 62304 / ISO 13485.
• Collaborate with PCB layout to guide stack-up, bring-up, and testing.
• Debug high-speed signal integrity and automate HIL testing with Python.
