DESCRIPTION

This is a 1 year position due to funding from the time of hire

The Wei Laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking to recruit an outstanding candidate to fill a Research Specialist position (Full Level). The ideal candidate will be able to independently develop, guide, and complete research projects and manage and train lab personnel.

Research in the Wei Lab focuses on developing novel diagnostic strategies for skin cancer and other skin disorders. Our lab utilizes clinical samples, molecular biology and artificial intelligence to answer the question of how to improve diagnosis of skin disorders, including cancer--earlier and more accurately--with the goal of translating discoveries from the lab into the clinic. We work collaboratively with basic scientists, computational biologists, pathologists, and oncologists at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Cancer Center.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Managing and training lab members including guiding and troubleshooting research projects for students, postdocs, and laboratory staff.
• Working independently and with other members of the lab to develop and complete research projects and to write and publish manuscripts.
• Assisting with the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals. Preparing and submitting grant progress reports.

Required qualifications:

• A terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or possess ten or more years of research experience.
• Applicants need to be self-motivated, fast learners, critical thinkers, and enthusiastic about science and medicine.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Strong ability to problem solve and troubleshoot experiments.
• Experience performing basic molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and protein expression analysis.
• Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of hire.
• Candidate's CV must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submssion.

Preferred qualifications:

• Postdoctoral training with expertise in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology.
• Experience in biomarker discovery.
• 3 year coding experience in machine learning with facility in Python, PyTorch, R, coding neural nets.

Salary and appointment will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and training. See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $96,500-$201,700.
