Job summary

Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) seeks an experienced Full-time Bookkeeper in New York, NY. The role focuses on nonprofit accounting, grants management, and accurate financial reporting with 5+ years of solid bookkeeping experience.

The ideal candidate will ensure data integrity, manage month-end close, and handle government funding reporting, while maintaining strong internal controls and timely financial statements. Flexible schedule and overtime when required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of experience with FundEz Software.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and FASB compliance.
• Experience preparing reports for government funding.

Responsibilities

• Ensure data integrity, internal controls and proper accounting methodologies.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes including reconciliations and accruals.
• Record transactions to accounts payable/receivable and General Ledger.
• Develop and maintain financial records, spreadsheets and files.
• Allocate income and expenses to funds and projects.
• Manage government funding/contracts; prepare status reports and related vouchers/reports.
• Support annual fiscal audit and prepare preliminary reports and financial statements.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closings and prepare financial reports and cash flow statements.
