Job summary

Corning is seeking a Design Engineer to design passive optical networks and generate BOMs for Fiber-to-the-Home and related access networks. You will collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Care to deliver optimized network solutions.

The role requires a 4-year engineering degree, strong MS Office skills, and the ability to travel up to 25% (including international). You will be part of the Design Engineering group, contributing to customer-centric design and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Requires a 4-year degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to meet stringent deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
• Strong analytical problem-solving ability and the ability to assimilate technical and commercial information.
• 100% proficiency in English, written and verbal, with clear communication across all levels.
• Up to 25% travel, including some international travel, may be required.
• Weekend travel could be required.
• Must be willing to remain in this position for at least two years.

Responsibilities

• Develop optimized passive optical network solutions for customers using product knowledge.
• Provide design support to achieve technically sound deliverables while strengthening relationships.
• Join Sales on customer visits to present solutions, train, and address technical issues.
• Use problem-solving to iterate designs to meet customer and company objectives.
• Formulate technical solutions using core and newly released products to meet specifications.
• Balance customer needs with corporate financial and strategic goals.
• Communicate with internal teams throughout the design process to manage commercial impact.
• Operate within a design engineering team to maximize efficiency and leverage strengths.
• Handle special projects with potential travel and embedding with external customers as needed.
