Full Time - Wellness Buyer

Purpose: Purchase and maintain product lines as assigned by Wellness Manager. With guidance from Wellness Manager, work with other department staff to meet objectives for sales, margin and customer service.

Status: Full Time, $23.00/hour

Reports To: Wellness Manager

Responsibilities

Customer/Member Service

• To establish customer service as a first priority.
• Answer customer questions and complaints completely and courteously (referring customer to the appropriate department and/or staff member if necessary.)
• Assist customers with questions and special orders. Offer samples and/or suggestions for purchase in a respectful manner.
• Provide a welcoming environment for staff, members, and shoppers.

Purchasing

• Order product lines as assigned by Wellness Manager.
• Maintain optimal levels of inventory.
• Maintain detailed records of ordering and up-to-date list of department stock using agreed-upon department standards.
• Observe trends and needs of customers and report findings to Wellness Manager for review.
• Research sources for special orders/customer requests.
• Negotiate with suppliers, brokers and sales representatives for best prices, terms, quality and delivery.
• Coordinate purchasing decisions with Department Manager and other department employees.
• Purchase products following Co-op purchasing guidelines.

Merchandising/Stocking

• Enhance knowledge of industry/products as it relates to department, including but not limited to: trade publications, workshops and conferences.
• Assist Wellness Manager in periodically evaluating product selection.
• Maintain an attractive, functional and “user-friendly” department.
• Check invoices to verify piece count and prices.
• Stock displays without overcrowding shelves.
• Stock and face displays, rotating older stock to the front.
• Pull short-date or low-quality items. Follow established procedures for recording and disposing of them.
• Label items accurately and appropriately with price tags or signs.

POS

• Maintain a regular weekly schedule of scanning for new shelf tags.
• Keep shelf tags up to date by scanning existing outdated tags and/or new products.
• Check for discrepancies and place new shelf tags with accompanying product.
• Generate information for creation of sale signage and inclusion in monthly sales flyer.
• Enter sales in computer as directed and in a timely fashion.
• Generate sale and/or miscellaneous department signs as directed by Wellness Manager.

Department maintenance

• Keep shelves, coolers, bins and floor of department in a clean, orderly condition.
• Remove trash promptly by separating recycling materials from rubbish and breaking down cardboard boxes.
• Advise Wellness Manager of any equipment needs.

Department Teamwork/General

• Be conscientious about coworkers and work with Wellness and other co-op staff for maximum efficiency.
• Answer phones, take down messages, and deliver them in a timely manner.
• Supervise and assign member workers appropriate tasks in conjunction with Wellness Manager.
• Adhere to work schedule as published by Wellness Manager.
• Clear all work schedule changes in advance with Wellness Manager.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by Wellness manager.
