Job summary

OSS Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our operating team in York, PA. You will work under qualified nurses, scrubbing cases across services, maintaining the sterile field, passing instruments, and assisting the surgeon during operations.

The role supports efficient, high-quality care with attention to asepsis, patient safety, and cost-effective practice. Schedule is four 10-hour shifts weekly, 6:30am–5:00pm, with no on-call, weekends, or holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Surgical Technologist certification preferred; must obtain within 6 months of hire if not certified.
• BLS certification required or obtainable within 1 year.
• Experience in a perioperative setting is preferred.
• Ability to manage time and resources effectively.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean the surgical suite as directed by the circulating nurse.
• Set up and maintain the sterile field and assist the surgeon by passing instruments.
• Perform sponge, needle and instrument counts accurately.
• Anticipate needs of the operative team and supply instruments quickly.
• Maintain aseptic technique and assist with patient transfers as needed.
• Support OR efficiency and participate in staff training as applicable.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of qualified professional registered nurses, and in accordance with established procedures and aseptic principles, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for the set-up and maintenance of the surgical field and will assist the surgeon during operative procedures. Possesses the ability to scrub all cases in all services and demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation, their uses, and accurate methods of sterilization and maintains an aseptic controlled environment. Assists in processes to streamline care, reduce inefficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs. Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Orthopaedic Hospital.

SCHEDULE:

(4) 10hr shifts/week, 6:30am - 5:00pm. No on-call, weekends or holidays!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with preparation and cleaning of surgical suite as directed by the circulating nurse.
• Sets up and maintains the sterile surgical field.
• Assists the surgeon by passing instruments during operations.
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument count.
• Anticipates needs of operative team and delivers necessary instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently.
• Demonstrates knowledge of accurate methods of sterilization and maintains an aseptic controlled environment.
• Transports patients and assists with transferring patients from stretcher to table and vice versa.
• Assists with lifting and positioning patient.
• Report unusual occurrences to the manager
• Contributes to the efficient and productive operation of the Operating Room.
• Level II:
• May assist with training and/or mentoring newly hired staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or its equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist strongly preferred.
• New Surg Tech graduates must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• PA 2020 Act 80, Chapter 5 Surgical Tech Certification Requirement exemptions will be considered.
• BLS certification required or an ability to obtain within (1) year.
• Previous work experience in a Perioperative area as a surgical technologist.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
• Must be able to plan and organize work.
• Must have proficient computer skills.
• Must have professional and effective communication skills and be able to promote effective communication at all levels.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
