Qualifications

• Valid Massachusetts Driver's license required.
• Must pass initial and annual criminal background checks.
• License as Special State Police Officer preferred (Massachusetts) and related certifications required.
• CPR/AED/First Aid, Narcan Training, AVADE/HDTS De‑Escalation Training, IAHSS Basic Officer Certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide protection to people and property.
• Patrol buildings and grounds.

• Conduct preliminary investigations.
• Provide escorts for staff, visitors, and patients as needed.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum of a High School diploma required. A strong educational background (Associate's or Bachelor's Degree) in criminal justice or related field is preferred.
• 1-3 years of security or related experience is preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver's license.
• Must submit to, and pass, an initial and annual criminal background check.
• The ability to be licensed as a Special State Police Officer under the Commonwealth of M.G.L. Chapter 22C, Section 63, is preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department):
  • CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Narcan (Naloxone) Training
  • AVADE/HDTS De‑Escalation Training
  • International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days)

• Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Physically must be able to lift 50 pounds; ability to stand/walk for minimum of 8 hours; ability to run to any emergency within the hospital and adjoining campuses.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Fluency in more than one language is preferred.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide protection to people and property.

• Provide emergency response to a variety of situations.
• Conduct preliminary investigations.
• Provide escorts for staff, visitors, and patients as needed.
• Assist motorists with jump starts and lockouts.
• Perform patient restraints; detain individuals suspected of criminal conduct.
• Maintain accountability for valuable/property and other forms of evidence.
• May be assigned to special duties such as Bike Patrol and/or Community Liaison Officer.
• May be assigned to an off‑site location.
• May be required to work other shifts and/or locations when necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
