Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital Police & Security Department is seeking full-time MPTC Academy trained POST certified officers to join their team of public safety professionals. The role requires MA POST certification, the power of arrest, and adherence to Massachusetts General Law.

Responsibilities include responding to incidents, collecting evidence, interviewing victims and suspects, preparing clear reports, and promoting crime prevention within the hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed FT MPTC Police Academy.
  • Must have MA POST Certification.
  • Must be able to receive Massachusetts State Police Officer designation and maintain it.
  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in criminal justice; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least two years of police, security, or related experience preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Must pass background checks and obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies criminal offenders and illegal activity.
  • Intervenes in and evaluates situations involving actual or potential criminal misconduct.
  • Responds to crime scenes; collects and preserves evidence; interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects; conducts investigative activities.
  • Promotes crime prevention and assists victims of workplace or domestic violence.
  • Attends court as required and is prepared for court appearances.
  • Operates department vehicles as needed.
  • Monitors access control and responds to calls for service.
  • Conducts investigations and writes investigative reports.
  • Makes independent decisions based on guidelines and law.

Job Description

The Brigham and Women's Hospital Police & Security Department is seeking qualified FT MPTC Academy Trained POST Certified Officer candidates to join their team of public safety officers. BWH provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital regulations and maintaining active, continuous vigilance.

As a BWH officer, you will respond to, and when necessary, initiate investigations involving complaints and/or possible criminal conduct. The BWH officers work under the authority of a special state police along with the proper State of Massachusetts POST Certification. Applications must possess the ability to enforce appropriate Massachusetts General Laws as needed, utilizing power of arrest or by seeking criminal complaint as needed.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must have successfully completed a FT MPTC Police Academy.
  • Must have MA POST Certification.
  • Must be able to receive Massachusetts State Police Officer (SSPO) designation and maintain such designation by completing all requirements.
  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in criminal justice is required. A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice is preferred.
  • At least two years of police, security, or related experience is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts's Driver's License.
  • Must submit to, and pass, an initial and annual criminal background check.
  • Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department):
    • First Responder
    • Annual In-Service Training, as currently provided by the MPTC
    • Narcan (Naloxone) Training
    • AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training
    • International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days)
