Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota (LSS) Canyon Hill's Center is hiring food service staff to prepare nutritious meals for teens in residential care. You will plan, cook, and serve meals for youth aged 10–17, following dietary guidelines and budgets.

Training and supervision of youth helping in the kitchen are included. We offer both full-time and part-time roles with afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma, or GED.
• Previous meal prep, experience preferred.
• Be at least 21 years old and willing to complete agency background checks.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license or obtain one with approved driver status.
• Must successfully complete all required agency background checks, including checks for criminal convictions involving behavior harmful toward children, spousal abuse, and drug or sex crimes.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritious, well-balanced meals for youth ages 10 to 17 in a residential care setting.
• Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with nutritional guidelines.
• May assist with food purchasing, inventory management, and special events while maintaining established budgets.
• Ensure kitchen and food storage areas meet health, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Safely operate kitchen equipment and maintain clean, organized, and stocked work areas.
• Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, equipment, and food preparation surfaces.
• Train and supervise youth assisting with kitchen duties while promoting a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.
