Job summary

HONEST WEIGHT FOOD COOPERATIVE, INC. is seeking a Chill Department Associate to keep displays stocked and provide prompt, friendly customer service. The role supports sales objectives and requires ability to work evenings and weekends.

The position handles stocking, customer assistance, receiving, and department upkeep, with shifts that accommodate both full-time and part-time schedules. No relocation is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to provide prompt, friendly customer service while meeting department goals.
• Comfort with basic arithmetic and accurate handling of sales transactions.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced grocery setting.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Familiarity with natural foods is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Stock displays fully, face items, and avoid overcrowding on shelves.
• Rotate stock, pull short-dates, and report discrepancies.
• Assist customers with product questions and suggest purchases.
• Help with receiving, verify deliveries, and sign for invoices.
• Keep shelves and coolers clean; participate in inventory.

Chill Department Associate

Keep displays, coolers, and shelves fully stocked and to provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service and to help meet department sales objectives.

Status: Full Time or Part Time

Hourly, $17.00/hour, Evenings & Weekends

Stocking

• Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves
• Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock
• Pull short-date or low quality items and follow established departmental procedures for recording and disposing of them
• Label items accurately with price tags or signs as needed. Report price discrepancies to buyers

Customer Service

• Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary
• Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products
• Help customers place Special Orders

Receiving

• In absence of Receiver, check deliveries to verify piece count and notify purchaser of discrepancies
• Check for damage and unacceptable quality, notify purchaser of discrepancies
• Help with unloading deliveries as needed
• Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments noted on invoice and route invoice to buyer
• Rotate overstock into storage

Department Maintenance

• Keep shelves, coolers, and bins in clean, orderly condition
• Remove cardboard and trash promptly
• Sweep and mop floor
• Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures when working in those areas
• Report equipment malfunctions/problems to appropriate parties as per departmental procedures
• Use equipment following all appropriate safely procedures
• Participate in inventory as assigned

Additional

• Attend Department and store meetings
• Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor

Position Requirements

• Ability to safely and consistently lift up to 50 lbs throughout a shift
• Ability to work shifts with constant standing throughout work day and frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching
• Ability to work in cold areas (coolers, freezers) for extended periods
• Ability to handle multiple demands
• Experience serving the public
• Familiarity with natural foods
• Basic arithmetic skills
• Familiarity with basic office computer functions including spreadsheets, email, internet
• Experience with computer Point-of-Sale systems a plus
