Job summary

UPMC Mercy is seeking full-time Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians to support our hospital units in Pittsburgh. Typical hours include 3 rotating 12-hour shifts with start times at 7am and 7pm.

Training is provided for those without direct experience, and advancement opportunities exist within the department. Responsibilities include routine patient care, vital signs, I&O, and coordination with RNs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• PT/OT/PA program enrollment or completion of at least one clinical rotation.
• Bachelor's degree in health sciences (optional).
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
• Basic information system training or equivalent.
• EMT/Paramedic or enrollment in such program (preferred).
• Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine patient care and support department services under nurse/physician direction.
• Maintain ADLs, vitals, I&O, and basic nursing tasks as assigned.
• Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Support safety and quality initiatives within the unit.
• Document in medical records per policy and procedures.
