Role Overview

Coastal Hospice invites you to join a team of caregivers who are committed to promoting dignity and quality of life for patients and families facing life‑limiting conditions. In your role as a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will help ensure that every patient and family is honored, supported and comforted as they receive the right care at the right time throughout their journey.

Responsibilities

• With written instructions from a registered nurse, provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living, homemaking and related assistance to patients.
• Provide direct patient care as instructed by a RN and/or physical therapist.
• Rotate assignments to meet program needs 24/7 as required.
• Provide emotional support to the patient and family, requiring effective human relations skills.
• Relieve the primary caregiver for occasional respite.
• Provide 1:1 care and other patient/family assistance as assigned.
• Document services clearly and accurately at the end of each shift.
• Promptly report any significant change in patient’s condition.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and agreement with Coastal Hospice policies and philosophy of care.
• Document 12 hours of in‑service training per year.
• Successfully complete periodic competency examinations and performance evaluations.

Additional Duties for Coastal Hospice at the Lake

• Perform change of shift rounds and communicate effectively and timely with supervising nurse and other hospice aides.
• Assist with unit operations by reporting low levels of linens and supplies.
• Check and document daily temperatures of refrigerators.
• Maintain a safe physical environment according to unit needs and regulatory standards.
• Perform light housekeeping duties.

Qualifications

• Current CNA certification in Maryland.
• Successful completion of training required by hospice regulations and standards.
• Ability to understand and follow spoken and written instructions.
• Sight, hearing and manual dexterity to function with or without prosthetics that enable these senses to adequately fulfill the job requirements.
• Ability to lift, push, pull or move patients, equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of 50 pounds with or without the use of adaptive/assistive devices.
• Ability to negotiate level and uneven surfaces with or without the use of assistive devices.
