Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California in Spokane, WA is seeking a dedicated Youth Care Supervisor to oversee daily activities for youth in care. You will coordinate meals, recreation, tutoring, and field trips, while modeling positive behavior and ensuring safety.

This full-time role requires 21+ age, HS diploma, experience with youth, strong communication, de-escalation skills, background checks, and a valid driver's license. On-call shifts and weeknight coverage are involved.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21+ years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of successful youth work experience.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check and DSHS Background Check.
  • CPR/First Aid training is required.
  • De-escalation and restraint training experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with clean record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with youth and staff.
  • Willing to be on call to cover shifts including some holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings.
  • Supervise program operations specialists during shifts.
  • Direct supervision of youth in care and daily activities.
  • Ensure safety, HIPAA/WAC compliance, and proper documentation.
  • Lead meals, sports, tutoring, field trips, and activities.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and secure premises.

SHIFT 40 hrs./wk., 2:00PM-10:30PM | Sunday - Thursday

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

  • 21 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • One year of successful experience working with youth
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Pass a DSHS Background Check
  • Be emotionally mature and stable in order to provide consistency, structure, and nurturing.
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Blood borne pathogen/HIV training
  • De-escalation and restraint training
  • Produce a recent negative TB test
  • Food Handlers permit
  • Valid Driver’s License with clear driving record
  • Successfully complete TSA Driver Training
  • Capable of auditory and visual supervision; verbally and physically interact with children in care
  • Possess skills/abilities to successfully work with the challenging behaviors of youth in care
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • High personal standards of cleanliness and thoroughness
  • Be available to be on call to cover other shifts during the week; some Holidays

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly staff meetings & training
  • Supervise Program Operations Specialists during assigned shifts
  • Training Tracts – required readings & reports for one year
  • Work well within a team
  • Communicate program needs & client needs to supervisors
  • Directly supervise youth in care
  • Be able to communicate effectively with professional agencies and administration
  • Actively lead, participate in the client’s daily activities including, mealtimes, sports activities, learning activities, swimming, field trips & tutoring
  • Follow posted schedules unless directed otherwise by a supervisor
  • Document client’s daily activities
  • Model appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors for youth in care
  • Assist youth in identifying and meeting their physical needs
  • Follow and ensure compliance of all Child Safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure HIPPA. WAC guidelines, contract, licensing and local policy and procedures compliance
  • Properly implement behavior management (de-escalation and restraint)
  • Comply with youth disciplinary guidelines
  • Offer guidance to the youth as needed
  • Clean the facility when needed
  • Do laundry when needed
  • Assist with snow removal when necessary
  • Serve food to the youth at mealtimes, as well as provide snacks throughout the day
  • Maintain facility security by ensuring windows and doors are locked; report any security concerns Contribute to a positive morale in the program.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with coworkers
    • Accompany youth to school and appointments as needed (driving, riding or walking)
    • Will be the expert on the shift concerning intakes and discharges
    • Communicates with the program manager and assistant program manager about their shift
    • Communicates with DCYF social workers concerning guests in the program
    • Responsible for filling out the shift log at end of each shift

  • All other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Grasp, push, pull, objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, doors, and reach overhead

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
