PRIMARY PURPOSE

Support the management and duties of store operations to meet financial and sales goals. Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culture in support of Food Lion Strategy. Maintain solid communications with the management team, all associates in the store and throughout the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the Deli Bakery HMS Department in the absence of the Deli Manager, including supervising the performance of all duties and responsibilities of Deli Bakery HMS Associates.
  2. Daily management of labor (i.e. expected live) and the coaching of associates to achieve productivity expectation.
  3. Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of our Brand Strategy and Culture.
  4. Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results.
  5. Smile and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast, easy, flexible and friendly customer service all while creating a positive shopping experience for customers.
  6. Role model outstanding, friendly customer service and use skills and knowledge of department products to offer solutions that meet or exceed customers' expectations.
  7. Control store's expenses through proper ordering, care for supplies and equipment.
  8. Understand and use company tools such as financial reports, ACIS, scheduling, productivity, ordering (CAO), and business information systems. Understands and utilizes Average Cost Inventory System (ACIS).
  9. Perform duties that ensure department appearance, quality, variety, workplace safety, food safety and department sanitation are consistently maintained.
  10. Ensure Deli Bakery HMS schedules are written to provide extraordinary customer service at all times, should create every other week.
  11. Ensure that ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning and displaying of merchandise is done in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  12. Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents.
  13. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  14. Record and report all associate and customer accidents in accordance with established Food Lion procedures.
  15. Monitor shrink ensuring that inventory is accounted for; provide coaching for associates to recognize and prevent losses.
  16. Ensure that all advertising and sales promotion materials applicable to the Deli Bakery HMS are properly utilized.
  17. Maintain security standards.
  18. Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times; comply with company dress code and personal appearance guidelines.
  19. Successfully complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet and Training Aid courses.
  20. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  21. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A high school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  2. Ability to lead and manage a team.
  3. Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques preferred.
  4. Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills.
  5. Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  6. Ability to use technical information to solve problems.
  7. Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job function.
  8. Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a "Certified Food Safety Manager" or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment; Accreditation must be maintained while employed in a position requiring accreditation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions.
  2. Ability to push or pull up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack.
  3. Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. on occasion.
  4. Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion.
  5. Stand 100% of the time with frequently walking short distances.
  6. Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, and household cleaners.
  7. Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
  8. Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level: occasionally above shoulder or below waist level.
  9. Meet established volume activity standards for the position.
  10. Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  11. Have sufficient visual ability to check invoices and other written documents.
