Job summary

Kforce Inc. is seeking a seasoned software engineer for a full-time role in Durham, NC. The ideal candidate will own the FS AWS Java Spring API stack and Postgres SQL, delivering robust microservices in a distributed environment.

You will work across Agile teams, apply TDD/DDD, leverage AWS services (SQS, SNS, Lambda, RDS Postgres) and containerized tech (Docker, Kubernetes), and mentor on best practices while accelerating delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on software engineering experience with distributed systems, event‑driven architecture, and microservices.
• Proficiency in Java (10+) and Python with Spring Boot; strong OO design and design patterns.
• Experience building secure, high‑performance RESTful APIs.
• Experience with containerized and serverless architecture (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience leveraging GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services including SQS, SNS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, and Kafka.
• Strong capabilities with relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and automated testing (JUnit, Mockito).
• Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Git, Maven/Gradle, and Agile workflows.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience with strong expertise in distributed systems, event‑driven architecture, and microservices
• Proficiency in Java (10+) and Python is required, along with deep experience using Spring Boot and strong foundations in object‑oriented design and design patterns
• Experience developing secure, high‑performance RESTful APIs is essential
• Experience with containerized and serverless architecture (Docker, Kubernetes) is also required
• Experience leveraging GitHub Copilot and AI‑assisted software development tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, enhance productivity, and support modern engineering practices
• Strong knowledge of AWS services including SQS, SNS, Lambda, ECS/EKS (Kubernetes), S3, RDS/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, and Apache Kafka
• Strong capabilities with relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and automated testing using TDD/DDD with frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito are essential
• A solid understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven/Gradle, and Agile workflows is expected

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
