Job summary

The Harris County Public Library system seeks a Library Specialist I to provide frontline customer service, assist with circulation, and support programs for all ages at HCPL locations in Houston.

You will help patrons with library cards, digital resources, readers' advisory, and basic research, while contributing to welcoming, inclusive service and community outreach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• One year of experience planning, delivering, or supporting programs for all ages.
• One year of customer service experience involving direct interaction with the public.

Responsibilities

• Provides courteous, responsive frontline customer service in person, by phone, and electronic channels.
• Greets patrons, identifies needs, explains services, and connects to staff or services.
• Performs circulation and patron-account tasks using the library system.
• Registers patrons, updates accounts, handles holds, renewals, and payments.
• Protects patron confidentiality according to law and policy.
• Provides readers' advisory and basic reference assistance for all ages.
• Assists patrons with public computers, printers, and digital resources.
• Delivers and promotes educational, literacy, and technology programs.
• Supports outreach, collections, and merchandising within guidelines.
