Job summary

St. Charles Health System is seeking a Public Safety Officer to safeguard patients, caregivers and visitors, and to maintain a secure hospital environment.

You will transport patients, monitor security systems, and perform real-time threat assessments in accordance with state statutes and organizational ethics. The role includes de-escalation leadership, reporting duties, and collaboration with admitting/nursing for monitored entrances.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass and maintain SCHS-provided classes/certifications.
• ODOT Safe driver training (4 hours).
• Workplace Violence Prevention Training (8 hours annually).
• Secure transport training (4 hours annually).
• Handcuffing Tactics (4 hours annually).
• Defensive Tactics (8 hours annually).
• DPSST Armed/Unarmed Professional certification within 90 days of hire; maintain.
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider within 30 days.
• Code Gray Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs secure transport with least restrictive restraints as needed.
• Adheres to behavioral health ethics and integrity guidelines.
• Responds to emergency codes and coordinates movement.
• Operates security systems and completes reports.
• Monitors parking and enforces hospital rules.
• Leads de-escalation support when required.
• Ensures safety of patients, caregivers, visitors, and property.
• Delivers customer service and directions to patients and families.
• Maintains documentation to regulatory standards.

Education
