Job summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) seeks an EHS Engineer to provide day-to-day Environmental, Health & Safety support across multiple sites in MI and CA, including track safety at the proving ground.

The role emphasizes audits, inspections, incident response, and program rollout. The EHS Engineer I/II will ensure consistent application of corporate EHS standards, engage with site leadership, and help develop a proactive safety culture through hands-on problem solving and

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience developing and executing safety programs in general industry, labs, R&D, EV Battery or manufacturing.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations and basic regulatory compliance tasks.
• Familiarity with OSHA, MIOSHA, and CALOSHA General Industry standards.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment overseeing multiple locations.
• Preferred knowledge of EV battery safety and chemical hazard awareness.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary frontline EHS contact for assigned sites, responding to safety questions and requests.
• Conduct routine inspections, observations, and walkthroughs across R&D, labs, and office spaces.
• Support corrective actions and track closure; escalate when needed.
• Assist with safety during maintenance, construction, vendor work, and track operations.
• Lead on-site safety committees and deliver toolbox talks and trainings.
• Implement and maintain core safety programs (Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Emergency Action Plans).
• Support environmental compliance activities including hazardous waste handling and SDS management.
• Prepare for agency inspections (EPA, MIOSHA, CAL/OSHA, EGLE, CARB, local fire departments).
• Participate in incident investigations using RCA, 5-Why, fishbone, or Job Safety Analysis methods.
