Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco, CA is seeking a Research Program Manager for the Frontier Assurance team to oversee independent assessments and transparency efforts around frontier AI safety decisions.

You will design external research partnerships, coordinate third-party evaluations, translate findings for safety leadership and the public, and help shape safeguards, deployment, and policy while ensuring rigorous, accessible communication of evidence and uncertainties.

Qualifications

• Experience with research partnerships and program management across technical teams.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional projects in AI safety research.
• Strong communication skills for executive summaries and public explanations.

Responsibilities

• Design and run third-party assessment programs for frontier models and safeguards.
• Build and manage strategic research partnerships with external evaluators and labs.
• Translate external findings into actionable safety recommendations.
• Collaborate with research, product, policy, and communications teams to explain evidence.
• Lead public transparency programs and publish assessments and findings.
• Create channels for researchers and civil society to provide feedback.
• Own goals, milestones, dependencies, and risks across assessment and transparency work.
