Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Research Program Manager for the Frontier Assurance team in San Francisco. You will lead independent evaluations, coordinate external researchers, and manage transparency efforts to ensure safety decisions are well-supported and publicly understood.

You will work across research, engineering, product, policy, and communications to drive rigorous external scrutiny, set milestones, and communicate findings with clarity to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and managing research partnerships.
• Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams across research, engineering, product, policy, and communications.
• Strong communication skills for public-facing explanations of complex results.

Responsibilities

• Design third-party assessment programs for frontier models and safeguards.
• Build and manage strategic research partnerships with third-party evaluators and academic labs.
• Translate external findings into actionable safety recommendations for safeguards and deployment.
• Explain evidence behind OpenAI's safety approach to both expert and public audiences.
• Lead public transparency programs and publish summaries of assessments and findings.
• Create channels for feedback from researchers and civil society for future assessments.
• Own goals, milestones, risks, and dependencies across assessment and transparency work.
