Job summary

Thinking Machines is seeking a Post-Training Product Manager based in San Francisco to bridge research, model behavior, data, and product directions. You will partner with post-training researchers to align priorities and translate research questions into actionable learning plans, while maintaining visibility across research, safety, and infrastructure domains.

Qualifications

• Experience as an early or first product leader in a technical startup, AI lab, research organization, or new product area.
• Experience working closely with model training, post-training, RL, evaluations, data, safety, or ML infrastructure.
• Ability to understand research deeply to earn trust and connect technical choices to user impact.
• Strong track record identifying missing connections in cross-team decisions that experts may miss.

Responsibilities

• Partner with post-training researchers on priorities and connections to the broader model and product agenda.
• Maintain a clear view across SFT, RL, data and environments, evaluations, safety, model behavior, inference, training infrastructure, and product dependencies.
• Translate ambiguous research questions into concrete learning plans: what must be true, what evidence would change the decision, which experiments matter.
• Build lightweight operating mechanisms with owners, state, dependencies, decisions, risks, release criteria.
• Bring qualitative and quantitative evidence about model behavior into research prioritization, ensuring user knowledge is represented.
• Connect research, product, infrastructure, safety, and leadership when decisions span teams.
• Support the path from research result to usable capability: internal adoption, evaluation, documentation, and release readiness.
• Write clear narratives that explain what has been learned, what remains uncertain, and why the work matters.
• Take on unowned work necessary to move a critical research-product outcome forward.
