Job summary

OpenAI is hiring an Early Access Deployment Engineer in San Francisco to lead technical engagements with customers shaping frontier AI capabilities. You will operate at the earliest stage, turning ambiguous ideas into working prototypes and guiding experiments, while partnering with Research, Product, and Engineering to drive value.

You will own end-to-end program execution, translate customer feedback into actionable insights, and collaborate across teams to manage risk and move programs

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering or equivalent technical experience with customer-facing delivery and production systems ownership.
• Track record of turning ambiguous ideas into working prototypes and carrying strong approaches to reliable solutions.
• Proficient in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, comfortable with front-end and back-end development, familiar with cloud deployment.
• Experience with AI or LLM depth, evaluating model behavior and building production AI applications.
• Strong product and customer judgment to identify high-value problems and balance speed with technical integrity.

Responsibilities

• Engage deeply with strategic customers during early alpha stages to understand goals, workflows, constraints, and opportunities.
• Translate evolving model capabilities into scoped use cases, working prototypes, and clear success criteria.
• Prototype rapidly with customers, Product, and Research through experiment-driven iteration.
• Design and support evaluations that reveal model behavior, solution quality, workflow impact, and failure modes.
• Own end-to-end execution of early access programs from onboarding to live experimentation, synthesis, and launch decisions.
• Align Research, Product, Engineering, GTM, Legal, Security, Marketing, and launch teams by communicating risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly.
