About the Risk Engineering Team

The Risk team at Whatnot is dedicated to building systems and features that ensure our users have positive, safe experiences on our platform. We believe everyone is entitled to thrive on Whatnot.

• As a software engineer on the Risk team, you will build systems and products that enable users to better moderate their shows, help our internal team take action and mitigate issues, solve complex system problems to monitor and detect bad behavior from large data sets, and develop scalable solutions for our next 20x growth.
• The key qualities we seek are sound product decision-making, the ability to navigate new domains seamlessly, extreme ownership, and the capacity to ship high-quality products quickly. We prioritize high-impact features and rapid deployment.
• The software team has significant individual responsibility and autonomy. We need team members who can be trusted to make good trade-offs and exercise sound judgment.

Team members in this role should be within commuting distance of our hubs in San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; and Seattle, WA.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
• Excellent product instincts with a user-centric approach
• Ability to implement pixel-perfect designs as specified by the design team
• Comfort in sharing insights, providing constructive feedback, and offering outside perspectives
• Understanding of backend technologies and creating seamless frontend-backend integrations
• Proven track record of delivering features end-to-end
• Strong ownership instincts, capable of managing projects from inception to production and beyond
• Experience with complex web tooling such as dashboards or shipping tools (preferred)
• Startup experience at a high-growth company (preferred)

Salary range: $185,000 to $205,000 per year, plus benefits and equity. Final salary will depend on experience, skills, and level.
