Team and Role Overview

Our Merchant Engineering team creates products that are easy for developers to integrate, enabling merchants and partners to unlock the value of the Affirm network. We aim to build a scalable, robust platform to enhance the purchasing experience online and in-store.

The Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform (MRIP) team develops functionalities to automate merchant risk assessment throughout their lifecycle with Affirm. We build backend platforms that support ML engineers in creating models to automate decision-making, ensuring risk is properly managed and merchant experience is smooth.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with your team’s tech lead and manager to break down projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Support product development by working with product management, design, and analytics, participating in ideation and decision-making.
• Maintain team artifacts, monitor metrics, escalate issues, and support operational efforts.
• Engage in team growth activities, including participation in interviews.
• Work closely with ML engineers to ensure effective and explainable decision-making processes for merchants.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and launching APIs at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Ability to develop solutions involving multiple software components with clear, tested, and extensible code.
• Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging, and participating in code reviews.
• Proactive in personal growth, seeking feedback.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Grade: L; Equity Grade: 6. The total package includes base salary, equity, stipends, and benefits like health coverage, flexible spending, time off, and stock purchase plans. Salary ranges vary by location, e.g., $142,000 - $192,000 in most states and up to $210,000 in CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT.
