Job description

Join the Future of Commerce with Whatnot!

Whatnot is the largest livestream shopping platform in North America and Europe, offering a space to buy, sell, and discover the things you love. We are redefining e-commerce by blending community, shopping, and entertainment into a unique experience. As a remote co-located team with hubs in the US, UK, Ireland, Poland, and Germany, we're building the future of online marketplaces—together.

Our platform features a wide range of categories, including fashion, beauty, electronics, and rare collectibles like trading cards, comic books, and live plants, with live auctions that appeal to everyone.

As one of the fastest-growing marketplaces, we are seeking bold, forward-thinking problem solvers across all functions. Check out our latest updates on our news and engineering blogs and join us as we enable anyone to turn their passion into a business and bring people together through commerce.

What you'll do:
  • Design and develop production algorithms and systems to prevent systemic threats, protecting buyers, sellers, and Whatnot.
  • Monitor the impact of these systems on good users, ensuring benefits outweigh costs.
  • Build event-driven architectures for real-time response to high-risk user behavior.
  • Contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, including ideation, prototyping, load testing, deployment, and alerting.
  • Communicate findings and drive initiatives across multiple product surfaces using dashboards, notebooks, and documentation.

We value low ego, a growth mindset, and a bias for action. The right candidate is curious, entrepreneurial, and impact-focused.

As our next Software Engineer, Fraud, you should have 4+ years of software engineering experience, and:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Have 2+ years of experience building for consumer-scale loads.
  • Possess 1+ years of experience coding in Python.
  • Experience with fraud detection and prevention systems is preferred.
  • Demonstrate business intuition and a data-driven approach; data science or machine learning experience is a plus.
  • Be impact-oriented, delivering simple, valuable solutions quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Be relentless and entrepreneurial, capable of working autonomously and leading initiatives.
  • Be comfortable with data tools like Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster.
  • Exhibit professionalism in remote collaboration, with strong documentation and communication skills.

Salary for US-based applicants ranges from $180,000 to $245,000 annually, plus benefits and stock options. Final salary depends on experience, skills, and level.

  • Flexible time off and holidays
  • Health insurance options
  • Work from home support and home office allowance
  • Monthly allowances for cell, internet, food, wellness, and childcare
  • Family planning benefits
  • Retirement plans and other perks

We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, valuing diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
