Job summary

Chegg is seeking a Software Engineer II, Frontend to own the design, quality, and delivery of student-facing web experiences built with React/Next.js. You’ll work across GraphQL layers and AI-powered study features, with frontend-first focus and some backend exposure.

You’ll partner with product, design, and backend teams to ship high-impact features, ensure performance, accessibility, and robust testing, including unit and end-to-end tests, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of frontend engineering experience building production web apps.
• Strong React and Next.js experience, with TypeScript proficiency.
• Solid understanding of security, performance, and accessibility basics.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs (GraphQL, REST) and client-state tools.
• Demonstrated testing discipline with unit and end-to-end tests.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development and safe, explainable code delivery.
• Solid understanding of data structures and core software design principles.

Responsibilities

• Own frontend features end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, and monitoring.
• Translate requirements into component architecture and GraphQL boundaries.
• Debug UI issues by tracing root causes across the stack.
• Build AI-powered study features with safe fallbacks and telemetry.
• Apply security and data-protection practices in code shipped.
• Optimize performance for high-traffic student flows.
• Ensure quality through automated tests and CI stability.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Backend to deliver student workflows.
• Contribute to code reviews, reusable patterns, and documentation.
• Ship end-to-end changes across web app and APIs/schema.
