Job summary

North is building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. As the first Principal Software Engineer focused on frontend, you will set the direction for how North looks, feels, and works, collaborating with design, product, and engineering to ship a cohesive frontend experience.

You will own the frontend architecture, design system, and performance, guiding multiple teams, mentoring engineers, and shaping Noros integration across the app and Slack, with a hybrid

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production web applications.
• Track record of setting frontend direction across multiple teams.
• Experience building and scaling a design system with designers, from components to adoption, and treating it as a product for the engineers who use it.
• Strong judgment about performance, state management, and data-heavy interfaces such as charts, tables, and filters.
• You still write a lot of code, and you lead by shipping with teams rather than handing down standards.
• Clear writing and communication, including explaining tradeoffs to people outside engineering.
• Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools, with the judgment to know when they help and when they don't.
• Low ego and a habit of bringing people along.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for North's frontend architecture, and write down where we're going and why.
• Build and evolve the design system and component library with our Product Designer, and roll it out across the app.
• Raise the bar on performance, accessibility, and interaction quality, down to the details of how the app feels to use.
• Establish frontend patterns, testing practices, and review standards, and get them into the tools engineers and coding agents use.
• Turn recurring frontend questions, review comments, and inconsistencies into design system and framework improvements that reach existing screens, not just new ones.
• Partner with product teams on new features so they land well for customers and fit the system.
• Help shape how Noros shows up across the app as a consistent part of the experience.
• Coach engineers through code review, design review, and pairing.
