Job summary

The Kroger Family of Companies, including Fred Meyer, is hiring for a store associate focused on delivering outstanding customer service at the Portland, OR division. You will greet customers, assist with browsing, and ensure accurate checkout experiences at the bagging area.

You will operate the POS system, handle varied payment methods, and follow store policies to prevent loss while maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
• Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk.

Responsibilities

• Greet, engage, and assist customers.
• Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
• Understand the POS system and handle various tenders (cash, checks, credit/debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, coupons) according to policy.
• Adhere to cash handling limits and work to control loss.
• Follow guidelines for restricted sale items (alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Stay current with ads and promotions.
• Adhere to food safety regulations and safety programs.
• Inspect and report equipment in need of repair.
• Create a welcoming environment and answer questions about products in-store and department.
• Follow all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment and manage conflict calmly.
• Maintain honesty and integrity with customer and business information.
• Assist with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults when needed.
