Schedule: PRN, 8s with some flex, potential for shorter shifts.
Shift: Earliest starting time 0500 or 0730
Performs surgical clerical functions, including scheduling, order entry, filing, report printing, sorting, and distribution. Greets patients at the surgical reception desk and explains surgical preparation procedures in ASU, Holding, Surgery, and Recovery (PACU). Coordinates with staff regarding patient status, delays, and scheduling or throughput issues. Answers telephones, transfers calls, and relays messages as needed. Prints, sorts, files, faxes, and distributes documents to appropriate departments. Verifies patient appointments and surgery times in the computer system. Explains tracking board to patients and families and assists in relaying patient location information. Maintains beverage area in a neat and orderly fashion. Assists physicians, visitors, and employees with locating patient families. Monitors patient waiting area, checking on patients and visitors needing attention. Performs basic equipment maintenance such as printer toner or ribbon changes and fax cartridge replacements. Assists in training new volunteer staff in desk duties and may be assigned regular or periodic duties by the supervisor, including maintaining logs and organizing the next day’s surgical schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
