Hy-Vee is hiring a Checker in our Grocery department. This hourly role involves operating the register, assisting customers, and helping ensure every visit ends on a great note. You’ll manage payments, answer questions, and support bagging, courtesy staff, and special promotions.

No formal education required; we provide comprehensive training. You’ll work in a fast-paced retail environment, stay compliant with policies, and contribute to a positive, safe shopping experience for every customer.

Qualifications

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables.
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers and learning their names.
• Operate the cash register and process all payment types.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and handle returns as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines on tobacco, liquor, and lottery sales.
• Stock, face, rotate merchandise, and assist with store promotions.
• Keep the register area clean and report cash discrepancies.
• Support courtesy staff and drive-up or carry-out service as needed.
