Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Freight Rail Engineering Project Manager to join our Transportation Practice. This role leads planning and design teams for railroad projects locally and nationwide, with a focus on seller/doer activities such as business development, scope/fee development, staffing, project oversight, quality management, and financial performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited curriculum.
• 7+ years related experience (15 preferred), including 5+ years in rail engineering or architectural projects.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred.
• Experience managing rail industrial development design-build projects preferred.
• Ability to lead multi-discipline teams and articulate value to clients.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety programs and promote safety performance for project teams and subcontractors.
• Lead design/build rail engineering projects with multi-discipline teams.
• Provide leadership in safety, quality, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, controls, and community relations.
• Develop and manage client relationships; participate in proposals and project-related items.
• Lead risk reviews and coordinate with Legal Department as required.
• Plan, budget, schedule, and establish project objectives and performance metrics.
• Mentor less experienced staff on technical aspects of projects.
• Communicate project status, risks, and costs to stakeholders.
• Manage contract administration including RFIs, submittals, changes, closeout, and claims mitigation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
