Job summary

XPO is seeking a Freight Operations Supervisor to lead all aspects of freight operations on a shift basis, ensuring timely and damage-free handling of customer freight. The role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to optimize workflows to meet daily targets.

The ideal candidate has experience in warehouse/distribution roles, knowledge of LTL and DOT regulations, and a track record of supervising staff while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• 2 years of related work experience in warehouse, distribution, supply chain, transportation or similar environment.
• Knowledge of LTL industry, hazardous materials regulations and DOT rules/regulations.
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Distribution or Logistics, or 4 years of related work or military experience.
• 2 years of supervisory experience.
• LTL industry experience.
• Positive attitude with ability to multitask and motivate team.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all aspects of freight operations.
• Develop and implement strategic work procedures to meet evolving department demands.
• Evaluate, manage, assign and supervise workloads and tasks.
• Supervise hourly staff across operations and address workplace concerns.
• Ensure production goals are met by managing tonnage, payroll and admin tasks.
• Plan hourly schedules to meet daily goals and reduce costs.
• Enforce all relevant policies and regulations (FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC, DOT).
• Implement workplace policies and ensure compliance to optimize network performance.
• Ensure customer freight is processed, handled, loaded and delivered timely and damage-free.
• Coach and develop employees and conduct new hire evaluations.
• Direct a team to consistently meet productivity goals.
• Make recommendations regarding hiring, suspension and termination.
• Develop and present action plans to improve load average and compliance.
• Participate in internal safety and engagement committees.
• Train employees on safety rules and processes.
• Maintain shift organization for safety and productivity.
• Conduct daily staff meetings and communicate policy updates.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and correct issues.
• Provide input for operational improvements within the shift and service center.
• Champion XPO values and high standards within the team.
• Minimize shipment rehandles by prioritizing direct loading and sector loading.
