Job summary

Argus Media in New York City or Houston is seeking a Senior Reporter to join its Freight team. You will cover the crude tanker market and related freight sectors, develop data-driven analysis, and contribute to daily news and in-depth reports.

The role involves mentoring junior reporters, building industry relationships, attending conferences, and helping shape coverage strategy while delivering timely, independent journalism.

Qualifications

• A graduate with a strong degree.
• Proven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadline.
• Knowledge of commodity markets and/or freight sectors useful, but not essential.
• Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills.
• Ability to use data in generating stories and analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess markets to produce daily price assessments, market commentaries, news, analysis and reports.
• Curate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage and develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis.
• Develop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.
• Regular meetings and daily communication with traders, brokers, and business leaders to build relationships and gather news.
• Contribute copy to daily and periodical publications and the online news service.
• Work with other departments to promote Argus price assessments and develop new pricing tools for the freight market.
• Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts and represent Argus.
