Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers for loading and unloading.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
2. Verify that documentation matches freight details (e.g., type, weight, hazardous materials) using electronic or manual systems.
3. Secure freight inside trailers with suitable tools and supplies, including pallets, straps, and ropes.
4. Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
5. Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
6. Assist customers with freight and related documentation as needed.
7. Perform hostling duties if required.
8. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Must be at least 18 years old.
3. Experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operations preferred.
4. Experience with hostler/yard mule duties preferred if applicable.
5. Ability to perform basic math and count accurately.
6. Basic written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to lift and carry freight of varying weights multiple times a week, including lifting dock plates (~100 lbs) and opening trailer doors (~75 lbs of force).
8. Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout shifts.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
10. Previous dock or warehouse experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

1. Dock environment with exposure to weather, fumes, dust, and noise.
2. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
3. Frequent contact with personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

Preferred Shift Time: 0500 - 1000, 1500 - 2000

Pay: Starting at $20.54/hour
