Norfolk Southern is offering a Freight Car Repairer Trainee role designed to train individuals in inspecting, repairing, and maintaining freight cars across the network. The program blends classroom instruction with on‑the‑job training and includes 7 weeks of hands-on craft training, with lodging and travel reimbursements per union agreement.

Competenze

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and physical standards.

Mansioni

• Inspect, repair, and maintain freight cars per FRA and AAR standards.
• Ensure compliance with railroad safety and operating rules.
• Perform welding and cutting operations (SMAW and FCAW in 2F/3F/4F).
• Operate forklifts, cranes, and car-moving equipment.
• Rerail cars and locomotives using rerailing equipment.
• Record information in computer systems about components, destinations, and repair records.
