Job description

New York City's economic vitality and livability as a world-class city depend on a robust logistics and supply chain network serving 8.5 million residents, supporting over 4 million jobs, and welcoming 62 million tourists annually. With nearly 90% of goods transported by trucks, the city is committed to reinventing freight transportation solutions and addressing related challenges.

Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM)

TPM ensures the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods. Its Freight Mobility Unit advances infrastructure projects, programs, and policies to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability of goods movement, maintaining the city's livability.

Position: Freight Analyst

Reporting to the Program Lead for Policy and Planning, the Freight Analyst will analyze freight transportation data, support planning studies, develop models, and collaborate with stakeholders to inform policy and program development. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct economic and planning research to inform policies and projects.
  2. Analyze complex data sets to identify freight trends.
  3. Develop predictive models for freight demand forecasting.
  4. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze data.
  5. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings.
  6. Build relationships with industry experts, government agencies, and research organizations.
Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I: A master's degree in physical, biological, environmental sciences, or public health from an accredited institution. For Level II and above: a doctorate with relevant experience, or a master's with three years of research experience, or equivalent education and experience. All candidates must have at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience. A minimum one-year probationary period applies.

Preferred Skills

Experience in research and data analysis, proficiency with statistical analysis, predictive modeling, data visualization, and data management systems (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Power BI). Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams are essential.

Additional Information
