Job summary

Overheard New York is seeking a freelance Content Creator to ideate, write, produce, and publish content that captures the unmistakable Overheard voice in NYC. You’ll work across written editorial, social-first video, and formats to keep the feed fresh, funny, and native to New York City.

As a project-based role, you’ll collaborate with the Editor and Social Leads, pitch new formats, and help build creative playbooks while staying on-brand with NYC neighborhoods, subway culture, and local humor.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in editorial, social content creation, media, publishing, or a similar creative field.
• Exceptional writing skills with a comedic sensibility, able to nail Overheard's specific voice (quick, sharp, observational, irreverent, but never try-hard).
• Deep familiarity with New York City: neighborhoods, culture, and the conversations locals are having.
• Proven ability to ideate and execute social-first content across Instagram and TikTok.

Responsibilities

• Publish NYC content on a consistent schedule.
• Write captions, headlines, copy, and scripts in the Overheard voice.
• Shoot, edit, and package short-form videos using iPhone or consumer gear.
• Pitch new formats and contribute to creative playbooks.
• Collaborate with Editor, Social Leads, and Editorial teams.
